Equilibria

Equilibria claims pay rewards, while withdrawals reduce the staked balance

Equilibria reward-pool claims pay accrued rewards without reducing the recorded stake, while withdrawals return staking tokens and reduce that balance. A standard withdrawal can also collect rewards. This distinction concerns existing reward-pool positions; token conversion, liquidity removal, and the availability of a particular exit require separate consideration.

A reward payment alone doesn’t prove that a withdrawal occurred; the recorded stake must also decrease.

Staked tokens and claimable rewards represent different balances

The stake records deposited tokens, while the reward balance records earnings that the account can collect.

The deposited position

A wallet balance and a staked balance describe different locations for tokens. Comparing them requires the same account, network, and pool. A combined portfolio valuation can obscure that distinction because price movements also change its displayed value.

For direct reward-pool withdrawals, compare token quantities rather than the position’s estimated currency value.

The reward balance

Claiming updates reward accounting and pays the eligible reward tokens. It doesn’t add those payments to the stake automatically. The reward-pool implementation keeps deposited balances separate from each account’s reward records.

Does withdrawing also claim rewards?

Standard withdrawals in the BaseRewardPoolV2_1 implementation also collect accrued rewards, so the actions can overlap.

The standard withdrawal function in BaseRewardPoolV2_1 invokes reward payment after reducing the stake and transferring the staking tokens. A separate claim therefore isn’t inherently required before that withdrawal.

The same implementation has an emergency withdrawal function that skips reward payment. That is a distinct contract operation, not a promise that every interface exposes an emergency control. Its name also doesn’t establish that it resolves every withdrawal failure.

The returned token determines whether the exit is complete

Withdrawing a staking position returns its staking token; any further conversion depends on the asset received.

ePENDLE remains ePENDLE after unstaking

Returning ePENDLE to a wallet doesn’t itself exchange it for PENDLE. The documented market exit uses an ePENDLE/PENDLE liquidity pool, whose exchange rate depends on the market. Unstaking and selling therefore answer different questions: where the token sits, and which token the wallet ultimately holds.

A liquidity token can still represent a pool position

If the returned staking token represents liquidity, receiving it doesn’t by itself remove that liquidity. A withdrawal that includes additional conversion operations has a broader scope than direct unstaking.

The transaction’s expected output should match the intended stopping point. Receiving a position token can complete an unstaking task even when further redemption remains necessary.

Claimable earnings and future distributions have different timing

A claim pays accrued entitlement; it doesn’t bring forward every reward that a distributor may release later.

The documented distribution model separates collecting rewards into the protocol from allocating them to individual positions over time. Consequently, a pool receiving rewards and an account receiving a claim payment are different events. Historical distribution schedules don’t establish a universal waiting period for every implementation.

A partial withdrawal returns tokens while leaving the remainder staked

In this hypothetical example, an account has 127 staking-token units deposited and a positive claimable reward balance. Both a claim and a standard partial withdrawal are available for that position.

The choice turns on whether the deposited quantity must change. Collecting earnings while retaining the full stake calls for a claim. Returning 37 staking-token units calls for a partial withdrawal, leaving 90 units staked.

Before signing and submitting either transaction, you can stop without changing the position. The withdrawal amount and expected receiving token must already match the intended action. Submission isn’t a reversible preview, and a completed withdrawal doesn’t have an undo button.

For the partial withdrawal, confirmation means the deposited balance falls to 90 units and the wallet receives 37 staking-token units. Any accompanying reward payment is a separate part of the result.

This calculation assumes direct unstaking with no additional conversion or unrelated balance changes. If the transaction instead includes a swap or redemption, its expected output needs separate evaluation. If the transaction fails, the calculated remaining balance doesn’t describe a completed withdrawal.

Transaction status separates submission from completion

A submitted transaction still needs successful execution before its expected balance changes establish completion.

A transaction identifier alone doesn’t prove submission or successful execution. Network processing also means that closing the application doesn’t cancel a submitted operation. Compare the transaction status with the relevant token movements before treating an unchanged display as grounds to submit again.

A failed reward payment can also block a standard withdrawal

A combined withdrawal can fail during its reward-payment operation even though the requested staking amount is valid.

In BaseRewardPoolV2_1, the ordinary withdrawal performs token return and reward payment within one transaction. A revert during reward handling rolls back that transaction’s state changes. An emergency path that skips payment has different behavior, but its existence doesn’t guarantee availability or success for a particular deployed position. The applicable contract and the actual failure determine whether that distinction matters.

A failed reward payment can also block a standard withdrawal: A combined withdrawal can fail during its reward-payment operation even though the requested staking amount is valid.

Equilibria: reader questions

Can I claim again immediately after a successful reward payment?

A second claim only pays any additional eligible rewards that have accrued since the previous payment. The reward pool clears the amount that it pays, so repeating the action doesn’t collect the same entitlement twice. Continued accrual depends on the position and its reward distribution; another transaction doesn’t create earnings.

Why might EQB rewards be absent from an ePENDLE claim?

The EIP-6 changes halted EQB and xEQB emissions, so historical descriptions of those incentives don’t establish new earnings. That distinction concerns emissions and doesn’t, by itself, determine whether an account has an older unpaid entitlement. Other reward tokens require their own balance assessment.

What happens if the withdrawal amount exceeds my recorded stake?

The direct reward-pool withdrawal cannot subtract more than the account’s recorded staking balance. The transaction reverts rather than creating a negative position. A wallet’s unstaked holdings don’t increase the amount available to withdraw from that pool, and a balance in another pool doesn’t count toward it.
